My latest food obsessions!

Every morning after my workout, which lately has either been boot camp or insanity, I will make a sunny side egg (seasoned with pepper and crushed red pepper) Sonoma wrap with spinach and onion! If you remember from my previous blog, Sonoma wrap is a low cal/carb tortilla that I love getting from trader joes! I love to put sriracha on it as well! YUMMMY! I wake up craving it! Another food I have been obsessed with lately is the spinach power salad at panera! Absolutely delicious! I have been waiting for this salad my entire life! Amazing. 230 cals for the half portion! I get the whole grain baguette usually if I get a soup to go with it. I have been craving the Mediterranean veggie sandwich from Panera lately as well. Oh man. Maybe tomorrow on my lunch... It's just right across the street..... Lol! ANYWAY I also love love love their unsweetened acai berry iced tea! I don't put sweeteners but I squeeze lemon juice in it! Try it! Acai berry is a very popular "superfood" that has many benefits! Another drink that I have been incorporating into my diet after workouts are protein shakes made with almond milk, chocolate whey protein, chobani yogurt, banana, and peanut butter! Delicious.

Alrighty... I need sleep. Early morning workout tomorrow! Insanity all the way! Train insane or remain the same! Goodnight! Say your prayers!

A fresh start

Its a new year!!!! Hope you all had an amazing New Years and weren't too hungover! hahaha. Anyway, I personally love that feeling of a new year. So refreshing. A NEW FRESH START. A NEW YEAR. A CLEAN SLATE.  What are your goals?

In no particular order, My goals:
1. To be a more loving individual
2. Think positive and truly believe and look up to it (hence, my blog)
3. Inspire others
4. Maintain my health and fitness goals (no more getting side tracked, BE THE EXAMPLE)
5. travel more
6. Do something positive for the world (join the americorps, get involved with charities)
7. Be more of a "YES" girl and get out of my comfort zone to welcome new experiences.
8. Strive towards my dreams and actually make them happen. (audition for Disney, model/acting, fitness and nutrition guru, etc)
9. To become closer to God. I have been a christian my entire life, but I really want my relationship with God to grow and really study his word.
10. Just strive to be an all around better person. To be a better daughter, sister, friend, girlfriend, student, employee, etc. TO BE BETTER THAN YESTERDAY.

Nothing is going to hold me back in 2013. THIS IS MY YEAR. I feel so inspired and so motivated. Dont let anything hold you back. Conquer your fears and experience LIFE. :)

Clean eats

Do you eat clean? Do you know what clean eating is? Clean eating is eating little to no processed foods! There are so many chemicals that we put into our bodies without knowing what they are or what they are doing to our bodies. A lot of canned foods or foods with a long shelf life are usually loaded with chemicals and sodium to help preserve the food longer. Foods that are fresh usually go bad within a few days to a week. I may have stated this in the previous blog, but when I first started my fitness journey I never watched what I ate. I would think, "well I ran today so its ok!" Or "I'll just burn this off when I go to boot camp tomorrow." UHH NOOOO. What you put into your body makes a huge difference!! I am finishing up my last year at school studying nutrition and I definitely learned a lot. Clean eating not only makes you look good, but you feel so good as well! I feel so amazing! A lot of people are so busy these days that they just pick up fast food because its a "quick fix". NO EXCUSES. I am a busy college student as well! I am planning to go to Trader Joe's once a week to restock my cabinets! It costs just as much as if you were to buy lunch everyday for school/work etc. Maybe even cheaper! Also, some packages are chopped veggies ready to eat, all you have to do is heat it up or put it in the skillet! SO EASY AND CONVENIENT. You can pack a healthy lunch when you go to school/work to help you stay on track and not get tempted by other foods. I work at the mall right next to the food court, so when I dont bring my lunch of course I get tempted because Im starving and theres nothing to eat. But when that happens, I always try to go for salads with the dressing on the side. YOU ALWAYS HAVE OPTIONS. Anyways, when I eat bad I feel so bloated, sluggish, irritable, sleepy, and Im sure you feel the same. But just a couple days of eating clean afterwards, can make it all go away. Finals week was really hard for me to stay on track! I was so stressed about passing my metabolism final that my workouts would last 20 minutes (if I even worked out that day) and study munchies got me BAD. Then after finals...WOOOO! PARTY!!! ALCOHOL!! I NEED A DRINK!!! HAPPY HOUR!!! HALF OFF APPETIZERS!!! OHHHH YEAHHHH!!! Man... did I celebrate!! hahaha. But the next day, I knew it was time to get back to it! Thats the good thing about cheat days...It only motivates you to go harder and work towards the goal even HARDER! I have been eating clean for 5 days straight since finals week (last week) and doing boot camp Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and running/blogilates on days in between. If Im not too sore I do INSANITY! omg, crazy workout.. I really want to see more muscle definition and tone up! I hate when people think I am "naturally skinny" and can eat whatever I want. NO. I worked hard for the body I have. I eat right. I exercise. If I didnt, I definitely wouldnt have this body thats for sure! So I still have work to do and continue to strive towards my goals everyday. Todays workout was boot camp! intense cardio and weights! I will post pictures of my progress soon! but for now here are some of my meals that I have been having for the past few days!

My favorite healthy snacks: baked oats and banana, multigrain pita chips with edamame hummus, salsa/guacamole with flaxseed tortilla chips, apples/bananas with peanut butter, grapes with tajin, rice cakes with peanut butter with sliced bananas on top, one slice whole grain bread with laughing cow spread on top with avocado and turkey, chobani yogurt with frozen fruit, granola, and chia seeds.. the possibilities are endless! Just a few of my faves that are easy to whip up together and take on the go! STAY HEALTHY! LOVE YOU!

How it all started..

OMG! My first blog! SO for those of you who know me know that I am such a health nut. I am majoring in nutrition and food sciences and work out almost everyday. But it hasnt always been that way...

Sooo looking back on my high school years.. I used to eat hot cheetoes everyday for lunch. Everyday. Like really? Ew. Where are the nutrients? GEEZ. If I knew then what I know now. I was also on the tennis team... I was a lazy player. I would never want to run. WOW. I run everyday now. Running is my form of therapy. I LOVE IT. I just want to put in my earphones, blast that music, and RUN forever. OK, not forever but you get it. Its the best escape. It really clears my mind and OH MAN THE RUNNERS HIGH AFTERWARDS IS AMAZING. I always feel so rejuvenated.

OK im getting off topic. Basically, I wasnt as active as I am now! It wasnt until my sophomore year of college that I became a gym rat. My freshman year... Im sure I gained the freshman 15! Definitely. I was enjoying all the delicious foods college had to offer. But I snapped out of it... and IM SO GLAD I DID. I used to feel so sluggish and depressed. When I started going to the gym on a regular basis, that is when my interest for nutrition came into play. I became interested in what foods to eat to maintain this healthy lifestyle. Once I entered the field of dietetics, I learned that foods I always thought was good for me...wasnt so good for me. Its all part of the journey. I will only continue to learn.

Right now I am focused on eating WHOLE foods and trying to limit my intake of processed foods as much as possible. I want to share this journey on my mission to becoming the best person I possibly can! I want to give it my all and put in my greatest effort to reach my fullest potential. I aspire to inspire others to live a healthy lifestyle.. That starts with me. I need to set the example. Not going to lie, I tend to slip up at times... when I get that certain craving.. But hey, I'm only human. I know that tomorrow is a new day. Im only going to get better as I progress. But as we all know, you only live once.. everything in moderation and portion control is key to cheat days.

As for my workouts, I love trying anything! As long as I'm staying active.. I love running, zumba, hiking, riding my bike, cycling class, boot camp, and my recent obsession PILATES! I love the feeling of toning and getting everything right and tight. I AM BEYOND SORE right now from boot camp class yesterday.. my instructor is SO INTENSE! I love her so much. She texted me saying "what no text from my little weiner telling me she almost died from class yesterday? I must be getting too easy.." UH NO! I AM SO SORE I CANT LIFT MY ARMS. But I LOVE that feeling. I have also been focusing more on weights and pilates over cardio... remember lifting weights=muscle. More muscle burns more calories throughout the day. Lift weights. Just do it.

Also, WHO HAS TRIED INSANITY? Insane right??? I feel so good once I finish the workout though. I want to try swimming...I want to take on a new activity. Random.. sorry.

OK IM DONE BLABBLING. Sorry this was way longer than I intended haha! oops! Until next time BeYOUtiful people! Love you!
